Elevation Gain: Minimal elevation change (fast and runnable)
Aid Stations: Approximately every 5 - 8 miles
Course Marking: Flagging and signage at all intersections
With smooth terrain, frequent aid stations, and an easy-to-follow course layout, Ultra Fest is designed to be both approachable for first-time ultrarunners and fast enough for experienced runners chasing a PR.
Ultra Fest follows a scenic rail corridor through the Cascades, making it one of the most runnable rail trail ultramarathons in the Pacific Northwest.
The out-and-back course design provides frequent aid stations, easy crew access, and multiple opportunities to see fellow runners — a format many ultrarunners appreciate during longer distances.
Even experienced ultrarunners prefer this, because it means:
easier crew access
easier drop bag access
less chance of getting lost
more chances to see other runners
psychologically easier than a remote loop
